The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 (CWC 2015) is the ultimate test of 50-over cricket, featuring the 14 best international teams competing for victory.
The tournament is contested by all ten full member nations of the International Cricket Council (ICC), together with four associate and affiliate member nations that become eligible through the ICC Cricket World Cup qualifying programme.
In September 2011 the ICC introduced a new 50-over League to serve as the qualifying programme for the ICC CWC 2015.
The top two teams of the 2011-13 Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Championship will qualify automatically for the ICC CWC 2015 and the remainder of the teams will be joined by Papua New Guinea and Hong Kong who finished third and fourth in the Pepsi World Cricket League Division Two in 2011 and the top two teams of the 2013 Pepsi World Cricket League Division Three in a ten-team ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier to decide the remaining two places.
The qualifying tournament will be held in New Zealand in early 2014, with the ten teams competing over two weeks. Venues are still to be decided.
This new format provides an exciting context for the new 50-over League with every one of the Associate and Affiliate teams being able to make its way from Division eight of the Pepsi World Cricket League all the way to the ICC Cricket World Cup final.
